Health and Safety policy
Belsize Park Removals Health and Safety Policy
Belsize Park Removals is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, contractors, customers and members of the public affected by our removal and relocation services. Health and safety is an integral part of how we plan, manage and deliver all moves, from small residential removals to larger commercial projects.
We believe that all work-related injuries, incidents and ill health are preventable. We recognise our duties under relevant health and safety legislation and industry guidance, and we expect everyone working with us to share responsibility for maintaining high safety standards.
Policy Aims and Objectives
The aims of this Health and Safety Policy are to:
Promote a positive safety culture throughout Belsize Park Removals, where safe working is the normal way of doing things. Prevent accidents, injuries and work-related ill health arising from our removal and storage activities. Identify, assess and control risks associated with lifting, carrying, loading, unloading, driving and working in customers premises. Provide appropriate information, instruction, training and supervision so that all staff can work safely and competently. Consult with employees on health and safety matters and encourage open reporting of hazards and near misses. Ensure our vehicles, equipment and tools are maintained in safe working order. Review and improve our health and safety performance on a regular basis.
Management Responsibilities
The management team of Belsize Park Removals is responsible for implementing this policy and for ensuring that suitable resources are made available for health and safety. This includes:
Setting and reviewing health and safety objectives. Ensuring that risk assessments are carried out, recorded, communicated and acted upon. Providing and maintaining safe vehicles, equipment and work systems. Ensuring that employees receive appropriate health and safety training for their roles. Monitoring compliance with safety procedures on site, on the road and at our operating locations. Investigating accidents, incidents and near misses, and implementing any necessary corrective actions. Keeping this policy and associated procedures up to date with changes in law, best practice and company operations.
Employee Responsibilities
Every employee of Belsize Park Removals has an important role in maintaining a safe working environment. All staff are expected to:
Take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions or omissions. Follow all safety instructions, procedures and site rules provided by the company or by the customer. Use vehicles, lifting equipment, trolleys, ramps, personal protective equipment and other tools correctly and only for their intended purpose. Report hazards, defects, unsafe conditions, near misses and incidents promptly to a supervisor or manager. Attend and actively participate in health and safety briefings, inductions and training sessions. Refrain from horseplay, unsafe shortcuts and any behaviour that could endanger themselves or others. Never work under the influence of alcohol, drugs or any substance that could impair safe performance.
Risk Assessment and Safe Working Practices
We carry out risk assessments for our key activities, including manual handling, packing and unpacking, loading and unloading vehicles, working at height when required, use of lifting aids and trolleys, driving and parking in residential and commercial streets, and working inside customer homes, offices and storage areas.
From these assessments we develop safe systems of work and method statements that are communicated to staff. Typical control measures for our removals operations include:
Planning routes and access in advance to minimise reversing and difficult manoeuvres. Using team lifting techniques and appropriate lifting aids to reduce manual handling strain. Ensuring walkways, driveways, stairwells and loading areas are kept as clear as reasonably practicable. Using appropriate protective materials to prevent slips and trips from packing debris. Securing loads safely in vehicles before driving. Observing safe speed and parking practices, particularly in busy or narrow streets. Using gloves, safety footwear, high visibility garments or other protective equipment when required.
Vehicles, Equipment and Maintenance
Our vehicles and equipment are essential to delivering a safe and efficient removals service. Belsize Park Removals will:
Ensure all vehicles are maintained, serviced and inspected in line with manufacturer recommendations and legal requirements. Carry out regular pre use checks of vehicles, tail lifts, ramps, trolleys and other equipment. Remove defective vehicles or equipment from service until repairs have been completed. Provide equipment suitable for the specific removal tasks to be undertaken. Ensure that only trained and authorised personnel operate specialist equipment such as tail lifts.
Training, Information and Supervision
We recognise that competent, well informed staff are fundamental to safe removals work. We will provide:
Induction training on company safety rules and expectations for all new starters. Task specific instruction on manual handling, loading techniques and the safe use of equipment. Ongoing refresher training where required by law, guidance or company standards. Site specific briefings when working at new or higher risk locations. Appropriate supervision to ensure procedures are followed, particularly for new or inexperienced staff.
Customer and Public Safety
Our teams often work in and around occupied homes, offices and public spaces. To protect customers and the public we will:
Plan work to minimise disruption and interface with pedestrians and other road users. Use warning signs or barriers where appropriate to mark loading areas and trip hazards. Keep doors, staircases, corridors and pavements as clear as reasonably possible during moves. Handle customers property with care and in a way that does not create unnecessary risk. Communicate with customers about any safety considerations relevant to their move.
Incident Reporting and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, injuries, near misses and cases of work related ill health involving our staff or affecting others during our operations must be reported promptly. Belsize Park Removals will:
Record and investigate incidents to identify root causes. Take appropriate action to prevent recurrence. Co operate with any statutory reporting requirements. Review risk assessments and procedures if incident findings indicate a need for change.
Employees will be made aware of emergency arrangements relevant to their work, including actions to take in the event of fire, road traffic collisions or serious injury.
Monitoring, Review and Continuous Improvement
This Health and Safety Policy will be reviewed regularly and revised as necessary to reflect changes in our operations, legal requirements or best practice. We will monitor our performance through site visits, team feedback, inspection of vehicles and equipment, review of training records and analysis of incident data.
Belsize Park Removals is committed to continuously improving our safety performance so that our staff, customers and the communities we work in can rely on a professional and responsible removals service.
